Trekking to Ganesh Himal Region

In early summer 2003 I was planning for a trek at Nam-Tso lake in Tibet. After arriving in Kathmandu, I was informed that the border to Tibet was closed because of SARS. Looking around for fellow travelers to organize a Nepal trek, I found Kathmandu almost empty because the monsoon season was about to take off in Nepal. I then got a guide, cook and some porters and went out for a 15 day trip to Ganesh Himal.

Start at Betrawati

Preparing the kitchen for the trek

At least there are still bridges here

The first climbs were still difficult...

...

Having a rest

Night camp at Satobate

Still agriculture

Devendra and Ram, the guide

Cocktail showing up

Camp at Bhalche, were we faced a violent thunder storm

But these damages were by Maoists

This was the last village - now we were on our own

Checking the route

Rest in the hot sun

A summer camp of normads

Our night camp at Gongur Banjyang. Several violent thunderstorms in the night kept us awake

The difficult climb to Rupchet; at 3500m the air got thinner

Taking a rest

Through weird forests

Night camp on Sedre Danda

On the way to ...

Singla pass. Too many clouds to see Ganesh Himal on this day

Residual ice field

Camp on Tiru Danda

In the morning, Ganesh Himal came out

Preparing for the climb on Pangsang Danda,...

which was not easy at 4000m

Ram looks tired at Wading

On our way to the camp...

at Pangsang Bhanjyang

Here we were above the clouds

Travelers from Tipling came up

Time to prepare for dinner :-)

Leaving our camp behind...

the last few kilometers were...

like flying...

almost arrived...

at Ganesh Himal

I thank the team of Haru Treks and Expedition for the great support!
